Documentary Film The Lottery, Showing at the Little Theatre, Looks at Struggles in the Public School System Screening Followed by Talkback Session with RCSD Superintendent Brizard and Dr. Shawgi Tell, Professor of Education at Nazareth On
Thursday, June 24th, the
Little Theatre will hold a special screening of the documentary film The Lottery at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Talkback session to discuss the film.
The Lottery, directed by filmmaker Madeleine Sackler,
explores the failures of the traditional public school system, forcing more and more families to leave the system for other education options. The film follows four families in New York City, all which feel the public school system has failed their children, as they enter a lottery to be accepted into a private charter school. Interviews with educators and politicians discuss the problems facing the current public school system, but also the ways in which we can fix the failures of the system.
Following the screening,
Superintendent Jean-Claude Brizard and Dr. Shawgi Tell, Associate Professor of Education at Nazareth College, will participate in a Talkback session to discuss the film, how it relates to the Rochester public school community, and what the district and the Rochester community are doing to combat these issues and ensure that every child in our system succeeds.
Tickets for
The Lottery screening and the Talkback session go on sale today, Monday June 14th, at the Little Box Office. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the box office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or 45 minutes prior to the screening on the day of the event.
