That's a really tough situation -- I doubt there are many people who actually want their child to go to their "fourth choice" school -- when we went through both K and 7th grade placement, by the time I was that far down my list of choices, I was putting in anything as a space filler to make sure my application was complete. Although the district has a policy of waiting lists and going through the parent center, if a friend of mine was in this situation, I would tell her to call Karen Sangmeister in placement to find out exactly where she is on the waiting list and whether the school is likely to open up any more kindergarten spots over the summer. Also she should call the school #23 principal and tell her how much she wants to go to #23. Even though the pre-K teachers aren't technically part of the school, it's worth a try see if there's anything that teacher can do. If she has any friends who are involved parents already at 23, they might be able to do something as well -- tell the principal what a great addition their family would be to the school. And keep calling, even if there's no space now!
